Letter from principal regarding student threat deemed non-credible by police

June 17, 2019 -- Over the weekend, the school was notified of a video in which a Hudson Junior High School student allegedly made threatening statements aimed at another junior high student. We immediately responded by contacting the Hudson Police Department to investigate. Law enforcement determined this threat to be non-credible and there is no current danger to Hudson Junior/Senior High School.

This incident is a prime example of people taking seriously our request that "if you see or hear something, say something." We thank the student and parent who came forward and alerted us to this situation so that we could quickly address it in the safest manner possible. Please reinforce with your children the importance of reporting any suspicious activity to an adult as soon as possible.

The safety of our students is one of our primary concerns and all threats, no matter how vague, will be taken very seriously and investigated. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at reardond@hudsoncsd.org

Hands-on STEM Field Trip

junior high student holds his hand over a wind power exhibit7th and 8th grade Science classes recently visited the Museum of Innovation and Science in Schenectady where they applied classroom learning to the interactive exhibits. The students explored solar and wind energy, a land topography table, an electric car and they powered a light bulb with pedaling. They also explored human use of energy and human impact on the Earth.

But the best part was the star show in the planetarium! They asked so many thoughtful questions that the presenter stayed after the show to continue speaking with our students and demonstrate how seasonal changes affect how we see the constellations.

This trip was supported by a grant from the Hudson Arts and Humanities Fund, a fund of the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.

Students Learn to Create Computer Games

students creating computer gamesSixth graders learned how to create computer games during an Hour of Code event in Mr. Millar’s Library Skills class. For this event, a one-hour tutorial showed students how to follow code steps, problem solve and create interactive computer games. As they advanced through the programs they relied on previous knowledge to complete more complex STEM tasks using coding. Not only did the students enjoy creating new interactive games, but also modifying them using different functions to build or change the characters. Mr. Millar said the students seemed proud of what they accomplished because they kept calling him over to show off their creations!

Exploring Careers with "Chip & Sip" art student uses colored pencils to design cookie package

Junior high students are exploring different careers as part of the curriculum in Family & Consumer Sciences with Mrs. Ostrander.

While enjoying cookies and juice, they talked about different career possibilities such as baker, pastry chef, graphic designer and marketing careers.
