SADD Sponsors Grim Reaper Day at Hudson High School

The Grim Reaper and Ghosts lined up in the hallway

On April 1, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) sponsored Grim Reaper day at Hudson High School in an effort to increase awareness of alcohol and drug related accidents.

The Grim Reaper was a tall woman dressed in all black who stole the lives of students throughout the day. These students acted as victims of an alcohol or drug related accident and were given death certificates to wear around their necks explaining how they died. Their faces were painted white and their lockers labeled with a tombstone. The “dead” could not speak to anyone and had to eat lunch alone in the cafeteria.

Students as ghosts lined up in the hallway

At the end of the day, all the “dead”, or ghosts, lined the hallway as students left the building. A paper chain with the names of every student, faculty and staff member whose life was stolen by the Grim Reaper was also displayed with a message reading, “We are all connected. Please don’t let death from alcohol or other destructive decisions break this chain of life”.

Grim Reaper Day is an activity that tells a story, how easy and random it is to become an impaired driving statistic.
