Getting to Know You

Mrs. Van Tassel is new to the district for the 2017-18 school year. She works at the John L. Edwards Primary School to identify and treat disorders related to speech, language and communication.

Here are a few things to help you get to know Mrs. Van Tassel:


What is your role here at the Hudson City School District, and where do you work?
I work in my capacity as a licensed speech language pathologist, providing speech and language services to the students at John L. Edwards Primary School.

When did you start working here?
This is my first year here. I started working at the district in September 2017.

What do you like most about your job?
I enjoy working with diverse students who have diverse needs.

What is your education background?
I received my undergraduate and graduate degrees in Communication Disorders at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY in 2000. After completing my clinical fellowship year in 2001, I received my license to practice as a speech language pathologist.

What is your background like – previous jobs?
I worked as an independent contractor for Columbia and Greene Counties for more than 15 years, providing speech and language services primarily to the preschool population (children ages 3-5).

Tell us a bit about your life and interests outside of school.
Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, enjoying the outdoors and traveling. My husband and I have five children, four of whom still live at home. We are currently renovating an old farmhouse and farm. We raise goats and cattle and have horses for riding pleasure.
