I would like to thank everyone for consistently going above and beyond on a daily basis. It is amazing how successful students can be once they understand it’s within their grasp and are willing to put forth the effort. The seed of self-esteem and confidence had bloomed nicely in the Alternative Learning Program.
Two years ago Marilyn Barry presented this opportunity to help the students of HCSD. On behalf of everyone here, thank you Marilyn.

ALP EARTH DAY CELEBRATION
Once again the ALP students lead the way. This time our students and staff organized and participated in an Earth Day celebration. ALP students were bussed to Oakdale where they cleaned up around the entire park, painted picnic tables, and planted flowers around the lake house. Other ALP students and staff cleaned up around the ALP school area and along Maple Avenue. After the chores were completed, we had a cookout. The Hudson Youth Department donated the majority of the food items for the cookout. A special thank you to Trudy Beicht for all she has done for ALP. [Slideshow]

ALP STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT PRESENTS TO THE BOE
Danielle Gilleo, ALP Student Body President, developed and presented a power point presentation for the Board of Education on March 24, 2008. Ms. Gilleo stood with microphone in hand and detailed the academic and behavioral progress of the Alternative Learning program. The success rate on Regents was emphasized along student work in both Art and Music. Snowboarding, camping, and horse back riding trips were also mentioned which emphasized the positive working relationship ALP has with the Hudson Youth Department. Danielle received a standing ovation from both the audience and Board of Education members. View the presentation (PPT, 3.8M)
ALP STUDENTS ATTEND YOUTH LEADERSHIP FORUM
Four ALP students attended the Youth Leadership Forum at Legislative Office Building on February 11th and 12th. The students attending are: Edwin Miller, Danielle Gilleo, Sarah Gough and Jheanelle Black. The Youth Forum is an opportunity for students throughout the entire state to meet and discuss concerns relevant to all schools. On Monday morning they had breakfast with Legislators from all districts of New York State and then are met with Assemblyman Marcus Molinaro to discuss government and youth issues relevant to all students.
A very special thanks to the Hudson Department of Youth and Youth Director Trudy Beicht. Ms. Beicht has been very supportive in giving many of our ALP students opportunities to participate in activities such as snow tubing, horse back riding, camping and snow boarding. Everyone in the ALP organization appreciates her efforts.
ALP STUDENTS SCORE WELL ON REGENTS EXAMS
ALP students eligible to take regents exams in January did so with an above average success rate for the district.
Alternative Learning Program students achieved the following passing percentages on their regents exams:
Global 10 – 60% Passing
Math A – 67% Passing
Living Environment – 73%
These scores continue to establish the credibility of our program in readying all ALP students academically.
I congratulate the students, parents and staff of the Alternative Learning Program for the continued success of our students.
