Our Reputation
Awards:
Our consortium was 1 of 5 programs awarded the Martin Luther King Jr. Symposium Award for violence prevention in 2004. We were nominated by the Office of Children and Family Services.
New York State Youth Award:
Presented to 8th grade student Sara Cusumano on February 1, 2005 . Sara enthusiastically helped to guide our newly formed “Caring for the Community” club as decisions were made regarding community service ideas in the school community, our local community and the global community.
Locally Sara participated with our club in assembling food baskets for the needy with other local organizations. She also helped organize a collection from the school staff community to collect money for the local Salvation Army Soup Kitchen. She then spearheaded the drive to collect items for our soldiers overseas including, socks, stationary, hard candy, gum, cornstarch, and flea powder. When she heard that some people were writing negative and mean letters to our soldiers she encouraged students to write positive upbeat letters to our soldiers.
National Accreditation:
In 2008 the Hudson Middle School Afterschool Program (HMS ASP) was Accredited by the National AfterSchool Association (NAA). Accreditation is a symbol of our commitment to quality and continuous program improvement. The NAA Accreditation Program is one of the first formal systems in the country design to measure and recognize quality afterschool care.
We were recognized in our NAA Accreditation Report for our excellent staff, family and community relationships. It is because of these strong relationships and your continued commitment to HMS ASP that we are able to offer our children the highest quality care.
NYS Provider Award:
In 2007 the ASP was awarded the NYS Provider Award presented by the Coalition for Afterschool Funding. The award is presented to an afterschool program or individual provider who has done outstanding work to serve children.
